‘Twas the morning of New Year’s Day and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, except for me and Scooby-Doo. Yep, I still watch Scooby and the gang (the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! seasons). And yes, I’m turning 50 this year.

Sometimes you’ve just gotta sit back, chill, and like, watch cartoons, man. The good ol’ fashioned kind. Not the raunchy contemporary ones like South Park or The Family Guy. Those have their own charms for another day or late night. But for this New Year’s Day morning while my brain is still a little fuzzy with sleep, I’m sharing this quiet time to myself with Scoob and the gang.

These shows have it all. There’s a mystery. There are menacing villains and lots of breaking and entering and destruction. The chase scenes are kooky silliness that make you smile. The mile high two-bite sandwiches Scooby and Shaggy create always look amazing. Then throw in a couple of red herrings before the gang cleverly (and accidentally) catch the bad guy. Everything is all wrapped up in a nice little 20-minute package (without commercials). Who wouldn’t like that?

It’s about noon now and I hear the stirrings of the rest of the household. It’s gloomy out and it’s snowing and sleeting. This is a great day to stay home, watch college football bowl games, and snack. I asked my Magic 8 Ball if it would be okay if I skipped showering today. It said “Yes Definitely”. I also asked if my healthy New Year’s resolutions could wait until Monday. It said “Signs Point To Yes”. Thank you, Magic 8 Ball! Looks to be a great laid-back day. The Ohio State Buckeyes play at 8 pm tonight which means the game will go past my bedtime. I hope I can stay up. Who am I kidding? Of course I will. To the very end! I asked the Magic 8 Ball if they’ll win. It said “Ask Again Later”. Ruh-roh!
