The Covid Nuts

I am happy to say, we own several nut bowls that actually get filled with…nuts. Trader Joe’s blister peanuts are our favorite. They are salty and have this great crunch to them that sets them apart from other peanuts I’ve found. Now, before you say peanuts are actually legumes yada, yada…I know. But they have the word “nut” in them so therefore, they can go into the nut bowl. Anyway, they make a great snack, especially for my diabetic hubby and surprisingly, my picky carboholic son, Boy B, loves them so I make sure they’re readily available 24/7. (You never know when you want a peanut.) Sometimes I’ll find the nut bowl by the couch but for the most part, it resides on our dining table, close to where Boy B sits since he likes to munch on them while on his laptop.

Recently, Boy B tested positive for covid. (Somehow the rest of us in the house were negative). Thankfully, he only had cold-like symptoms which were mild and within a few days he was feeling back to normal. Phew! (Believe me, I knocked on wood a thousand times.) But sadly, no one wanted to touch that little bowl of nuts since Boy B tested positive. I imagined a big sign hanging over it that said, COVID NUTS. The rational side of my brain said they’re totally fine to eat. But the irrational side screamed, they have covid cooties! After a debate that lasted about a nanosecond, my irrational side won so into the trash they went. The nut bowl was washed, sanitized, and then refilled with fresh, new nuts. And guess what? We started eating them again. Oddly, the covid cookies still disappeared from the cookie jar. Apparently, we’re only nuts about the nuts. Who knew?
