There is no doubt our outlook on life evolves as we age. Here’s a summary of my views on everyday living over four decades. Even though I’m just at the beginning of my 50s, the 50s represents how it’s going so far…
FASHION
20s: Rockin’ the 20-something bod. The snugger the clothes, the better.
30s: Try to look as hip as a 20-something but in a larger size.
40s: Long live Spanx!
50s: Soft and fuzzy is my favorite.
EATING
20s: Anything goes as long as it’s cheap and absorbs alcohol.
30s: Homecooked is best but where is that new restaurant?
40s: If I put it on a salad, it’s healthy.
50s: Fat, carbs, sugar, salt and gluten are all bad. There are more foods to avoid than I’m able to eat so therefore I’m having a “cheat” year.
EXERCISE
20s: Buy a gym membership.
30s: It’s called having kids and does Target shopping count?
40s: Buy an exercise machine, use it for a few months, then it becomes a very expensive clothes rack.
50s: Is exercise really necessary? As long as I am moving, I’m good.
GOING OUT
20s: Any night, all night if possible; Will drink anything available.
30s: “Date Night” once a week; Get tipsy on craft cocktails and chocolate martinis.
40s: “Ladies’ Night Out” once a month; Uh oh, who bought the shots? Better Uber home.
50s: Leaving the house to pick up carryout counts; Buy extra-large bottles of wine because you get more bang for your buck. And if I drink it all, it still counts as one bottle and that’s okay because I’m not going anywhere ‘cause bedtime is at 10 pm.
