Rain on the Brain

It’s been exceptionally rainy in our section of the world lately. Almost every day the forecast has been hovering around 50% scattered showers, sometimes with thunder, sometimes not. I’m so not happy with the humidity it brings. Lately it seems to heighten my warm flashes. Humidity is also bad for hair and it makes you feel moist. Who likes feeling moist? People should not be moist. I’m not a fan of the word moist either unless we’re talking about chocolate cake. Or if the Pillsbury Doughboy says it because he’s so darn cute. But not as cute at that gecko in those TV commercials. I think all reptiles should look like him. And have that adorable accent when they speak. They’d be a lot more tolerable that way. I digress…

Driving to work as it erratically spittled rain reminded me of Darth Vader in that final Death Star battle in A New Hope. There are a couple of shots where Vader, in his TIE fighter, is fiddling around with a dial or knob. This morning while I was adjusting my intermittent window wipers, I realized I was doing the same thing. I always wondered what Vader was up to. But now I’m thinking he was probably adjusting his window wipers, clearing away debris and whatnots floating in space. Afterall, this was a huge battle with lots of explosions so there had to be a lot of bits of ships and pilots floating about. Maybe some got stuck on his windshield. Or is it spaceshield? Or shipshield? Or how about starship window shield? Sorry, I strayed again. But what do you call that window in space?

Sitting in traffic while it’s raining can be mesmerizing. I’ll often find myself watching everyone’s window wipers moving at different speeds. It reminds me of a room full of those pendulum clocks where nothing is in sync, but not as loud, chaotic, and annoying. I’m glad about that. Sometimes I’ll start watching my windshield wipers go back and forth. Then I’ll focus on the raindrops hitting the window and everything else gets blurry. Then I’ll try to watch both at the same time and I’ll go cross-eyed and get a little dizzy. Then the light turns green. Yay.

Rain, rain, go away.
I'm just not in the mood today.
