I love it when our cat Poppy finds the warm sunny spot in the house. It doesn’t matter where it is, she just plops down and lays. We call it the Poppy Plop. She always looks so content, cozy and comfortable wherever she is. Once, I decided to try this myself. Not the plopping part, but the lay-in-the-warm sunny spot part. While the sunny spot was indeed nice and warm, the floor part was hard and I felt really flat. I guess you have to be a cat (or dog) to fully enjoy the experience.

Poppy is a real sucker for anything warm. She was fascinated by candles for a while. I thought it was the flickering flame that attracted her. No, it was the warmth. It seemed as if she’d dare herself to get closer to the flame every time we lit that candle…until a few of her whiskers were singed. Thankfully they never actually caught fire. (We were watching her closely.) They just got shorter and a little curly on one side. She left the candle alone after that. Smart little kitty.

New word alert! Ensnuggle verb to surround oneself with snuggliness; what Poppy does

Poppy will find any cozy spot to ensnuggle herself. Other than the typical couch, beds, blankets, pillows, laps, and sister cat, Poppy especially loves the extra warmth that comes out of the furnace vents. The moment she hears the furnace start up, she’ll plop right next to a vent. When the warm air starts flowing, there’s no moving her. Sometimes she looks like she’s hugging the wall, smiling, while the warm air wraps around her like a hug. Sounds really nice, right? For cats, yes. For people, it’s awkward. Because I tried doing that too. No one was around to see it. And I’m glad.

Yes, this post was indeed about my cat. I think every pet owner likes to talk about their beloved pet at some point. I am no different. (I’m sure you’ll hear about our other cat Twilight and probably more on Poppy another day.) Time to throw on some slippers, grab a cozy throw, and ensnuggle myself in front of the TV to catch up on a few shows. I’m sure Poppy will be joining me shortly. ✌🏼Peace out!
